OUTREACH OVERVIEW
Gainesville Science Clubs
I volunteer with the Gainesville Cultural Arts Coalition to lead interactive science activities at elementary school afterschool science clubs. These science clubs are designed to increase standardized test scores and science education in economically-disadvantaged communities. I lead activities related to coastal ecology, focusing on seagrass ecosystems, trophic interactions, ecosystem services, and how humans impact these systems. These activities directly address Florida learning targets.
Interactive Seagrass Exhibit
I created a magnetic educational display focused on seagrass ecosystems and humans interact with these ecosystems. Visitors can move the magnets to create different foodwebs and ecological pyramids, and visitors can also simulate seagrass propeller scars using the magnets. I display this exhibit at the Nature Coast Biological Station and various other open houses throughout Florida.
